My name is Nathan Scott, and I am a Computer Science student at UC San Diego (UCSD) and aspiring indie video game developer. I made my first game in Scratch in 3rd grade, and started working in Unity around the start of High School. I currently serve as Programming Co-Lead for UCSD’s Video Game Development Club (VGDC). Check out my Portfolio below to play some of the games I’ve worked on!
Outside of developing games I also play a lot of games, especially Metroidvanias, roguelites, and Soulslikes. Here are my top 5 games/game franchises of all time:
Finally, here are a few of my other favorites:

Mariposa is a 2D puzzle-platformer game that harnesses the butterfly effect, shaping the past to change the future. Every interaction with Mariposa, an automatonsmith from a utopian past, will billow out into time itself—and guiding a ghost from a forgotten era might be enough to change your fate.
Mariposa was the result of VGDC’s 2025 ‘The Chanel Project’ (TCP), a clubwide project where anyone who signs up can participate in a preprofessional game development setting. Over the course of two quarters and a summer break, over 70 students contributed to the project, which became our club’s first game to be published on Steam. I started the project as a gameplay programmer working on puzzles before taking up the role of Programming Co-Lead, responsible for managing the team of 23 programmers.

Tethered Spirit title graphic by Tamika Hsieh
Tethered Sprit is a 2D fantasy escape room game where the player’s body and spirit have been severed and locked away in two separate rooms. The player must solve a series of puzzles to complete the ritual that will tether their spirit back to their body, allowing them to escape.
Tethered Spirit was my first project with VGDC at UC San Diego! During the two-week Fall 2024 TritonWare Game Jam, I worked alongside six other students as a gameplay programmer and was responsible for implementing multiple of the game’s standalone puzzles.

Do you like BONES?
Shoot left and right to survive against waves of monsters, gaining upgrades after each wave!
OSSA was made in just 24 hours by a team of three for VGDC’s Fall 2025 teeny-tinyware game jam! As the team’s designer and programmer, I was responsible for designing and implementing gameplay that followed the game jam’s key constraint: the game could only have two input buttons.

Before you, toiling ink unfurls to Fate’s design; which road will you take?
Plotweaver is a storytelling roguelike deckbuilder where every card you play adds a unique line to your ever-growing story.
Plotweaver was the first project that I personally pitched and performed project management for. As part of VGDC’s Project Forge, I pitched this game idea to the club before serving as project manager for our team of 18 members over six weeks. While the end product was far from polished, this was a great learning experience that I hope to take into future projects.
